520551-05 - BCM

Case IH 520551-05 - BCM – BCM: Right extended arm turn indicator - open circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit responsible for operating the right turn signal located on the extended arm. An "open circuit" typically indicates a disconnected plug, a severed wire, a blown bulb/LED, or a failed internal trace within the lamp assembly.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the right extended arm turn indicator to see if the bulb is burnt out or if the LED assembly has suffered physical impact damage

  2. Disconnect the plug at the right extended arm lamp and check for pushed-out pins, water intrusion, or heavy corrosion

  3. Using a digital multimeter, check for continuity on the power and ground wires running from the BCM to the right extended arm turn indicator, looking for pinch points or snags

  4. Ensure the ground circuit for the right turn indicator is securely fastened to the chassis and free of rust or paint interference

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits during repair.

  2. Access the Assembly

Locate the right extended arm turn indicator assembly. Remove the retaining screws or clips holding the lens or the entire lamp housing in place.

  3. Test/Replace the Lamp

If the tractor uses a replaceable halogen bulb, swap it with a known good bulb. If it is a sealed LED unit, test it by applying direct 12V power and ground to the pins. If the lamp fails to illuminate, it must be replaced.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the lamp tests good, trace the open circuit in the wiring harness back toward the cab/BCM. Splice and heat-shrink any broken wires found along the extended arm pivot points.

  5. Reassembly

Plug the connector back into the lamp assembly and remount the housing to the extended arm.

  6. Clear and Verify

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition to the ON position, and activate the right turn signal. Verify that the indicator flashes correctly and that the BCM no longer logs the 520551-05 active fault code.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Right Extended Arm Turn Indicator Assembly / Turn Signal Lamp Assembly

When ordering, you must verify with the dealer whether your tractor is equipped with standard halogen lighting or the upgraded LED lighting package, as the BCM monitors resistance differently for each.
