Case IH 520558-02 - ACM – ACM: Air conditioning display shortcut switch circuit fault

Issue description

The system has detected an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) in the circuit for the physical shortcut button on the armrest that brings up the HVAC/Air Conditioning controls on the main display.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 380
  • Magnum 400
  • Steiger AFS Connect Series
  • Quadtrac AFS Connect Series
  • Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical A/C shortcut switch on the Multicontroller armrest for sticking, physical damage, or liquid spill residue

  2. Access the underside of the armrest control panel and inspect the wiring harness and connector leading from the switch panel to the ACM for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires

  3. Use a multimeter to test the switch circuit for continuity when pressed, and ensure there is no short to ground or short to voltage when the button is released

  4. Check the ACM software version via the AFS Pro 1200 display to ensure the module is running the latest firmware (e.g., software part number 48010791 or newer)

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes while working on the CAN bus and ACM modules.

  2. Disassemble the Armrest

Carefully pry up or unscrew the upper trim panels of the Multicontroller armrest to expose the integrated control panel and the ACM.

  3. Isolate the Fault

Disconnect the A/C shortcut switch/panel from the ACM.

  4. Repair Wiring/Switch

If the wiring harness is pinched or damaged, repair the wires using OEM-approved splice connectors. If the switch fails the multimeter continuity test, replace the switch or the integrated switch panel assembly (depending on whether the button is modular or part of a sealed membrane board).

  5. Replace the ACM (if necessary)

If the switch and wiring harness test perfectly fine, the fault is likely an internal failure of the Armrest Control Module's input circuit. Disconnect the main harnesses from the ACM, unbolt it, and install the replacement module.

  6. Reassembly and Calibration

Reinstall all armrest trim. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear Codes

Turn the key on, navigate to the diagnostics menu on the AFS Pro 1200 display, and clear the active 520558-02 fault code. Press the A/C shortcut switch to verify the HVAC screen pops up and the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Electronic Control Unit for Armrest Control Module (ACM)

    48068685

Fits Magnum AFS Connect, Steiger AFS Connect, and late-model Puma series.

  • Integrated Control Panel / A/C Shortcut Switch

Specific part number requires the machine's exact PIN/serial number, as it is often sold as an 'Integrated Control Panel' assembly.

  • ACM Software Flash

    48010791

    Reference for dealer firmware flashing.
