Case IH 520560-05 - BCM – BCM: Cab left wiper motor - open circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in the electrical path to the left wiper motor. The circuit is incomplete, which could be caused by a severed wire, an unplugged connector, a blown fuse, or a burned-out internal motor winding.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Steiger 4WD Tractors: 370, 385, 400, 435, 450, 470, 485, 500, 550, 600, 620
- Magnum / MX Magnum Tractors: 180 through 380 series
- Puma, Maxxum, and Optum Tractors
- Axial-Flow Combines
Check the cause
Check Fuses and Relays: Locate the cab power module/fuse box and inspect the specific fuse and relay assigned to the left wiper motor.
Inspect the Harness and Connectors: Access the left wiper motor (usually located behind the cab roof liner or A/B pillar trim). Unplug the connector and check for backed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.
Test for Power and Ground: With the key ON and the wiper switch activated, use a multimeter to check for 12V power and a solid ground at the motor connector.
Continuity Test: If there is no power, test the continuity of the wiring harness from the BCM output pin to the wiper motor connector to locate the break in the wire.
Direct Motor Test: Apply 12V power and ground directly to the wiper motor terminals. If the motor does not actuate, the internal windings are open, and the motor itself has failed.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Turn off the battery disconnect switch or disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the motor
Remove the interior cab roof liner, corner panel, or exterior access panel (depending on the specific tractor/combine model) to expose the left wiper motor assembly.
Disconnect linkage
Unbolt the wiper arm from the exterior pivot shaft. Inside the cab, disconnect the mechanical linkage from the motor if it is part of a larger assembly.
Remove the motor
Unplug the electrical harness connector. Remove the mounting bracket bolts securing the motor to the cab frame.
Install the new motor
Mount the replacement wiper motor and tighten the bracket bolts. Reconnect the mechanical linkage and the exterior wiper arm.
Reconnect and test
Plug in the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and test the wiper switch through all speed settings.
Clear codes
Use the diagnostic interface or monitor to clear the 520560-05 inactive code from the BCM. Reinstall all cab trim panels.
