Case IH 520564-06 - BCM – BCM: Short circuit to ground in the circuit controlling the Cab right wiper motor

The electrical power intended for the right wiper motor is finding a premature path to the chassis ground, which typically blows a fuse, trips a circuit breaker, or causes the Body Control Module to disable the circuit to prevent wiring damage.

   Check the cab relay, circuit breaker, and the specific fuse assigned to the wiper system (a short to ground will often blow the fuse immediately)

   Inspect the outer roof harness and cab headliner wiring for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation

   Turn the ignition key OFF and disconnect the electrical connector at the right wiper motor (often designated as X297 or X116)

   Perform a continuity test between the wiper motor power supply wire in the harness and a known good chassis ground (Continuity indicates a harness short; no continuity indicates an internal motor short)

   Use a voltmeter to check for 12V at the wiper switch terminal to ensure the switch hasn't failed or melted internally

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing.

   Repair wiring harness (if shorted)

   Remove the interior cab ceiling trim/headliner to access the roof wiring harness. Trace the wire from the BCM to the right wiper motor connector. Locate the chafed or pinched section of the wire, cut it out, and splice in a new section using weather-resistant heat-shrink butt connectors, or replace the affected harness sub-assembly. Secure the harness with zip ties to ensure it does not rub against the cab frame.

   Remove wiper motor (if internally shorted)

   Remove the wiper blade and wiper arm from the exterior of the cab. Remove the cab ceiling trim to access the motor mounting hardware. Unplug the electrical connector from the right wiper motor, remove the mounting nuts securing the motor unit to the cab framework, and extract the motor.

   Install new wiper motor

   Install the new wiper motor, aligning the fixing holes carefully. Secure it with the mounting nuts. Reconnect the electrical connector, reinstall the cab ceiling trim, and reattach the exterior wiper arm and blade.

   Test system

   Reconnect the battery and test the wiper function on all speed settings.
