Case IH 520565-03 - BCM – BCM: Hazards indicator - short circuit to B+
Issue description
The circuit responsible for the hazard indicator light is shorted to battery voltage (B+), receiving continuous 12V power when it shouldn't be. This is typically caused by a wiring harness rub-through to a live power wire, a failed switch, or an internal module fault.

Check the cause
Check if the hazard lights or the dashboard hazard indicator stay illuminated constantly even when the switch is off.
Inspect the wiring harness running between the BCM, the dashboard indicator, and the hazard switch. Look for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause the indicator signal wire to short against a 12V power source.
Disconnect the hazard switch. If the short to B+ goes away, the switch is likely shorted internally.
Inspect the connectors at the Body Control Module for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge a power terminal to the hazard indicator terminal.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access Components
Remove the necessary trim panels to access the hazard switch and the Body Control Module (BCM).
Isolate the Circuit
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors at both the hazard switch and the BCM.
Test for Short to Power
Using a digital multimeter, probe the hazard indicator signal wire in the harness. Check for continuity or voltage presence against a known power wire or battery positive.
Repair Wiring
If a short to power is found in the harness, trace the wire to locate the rub-through or pinch point. Repair the damaged section using a wiring harness repair kit (solder and heat shrink).
Test/Replace Switch
If the harness tests good, test the hazard switch for an internal short using the multimeter. Replace the switch if it fails continuity testing.
BCM Replacement (Last Resort)
If the harness and switch are both in good working order, the BCM itself may have an internal short and will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
Reassembly
Reconnect all components and the battery. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool and test the hazard lights to verify the repair.
