520565-06 - BCM

Case IH 520565-06 - BCM – BCM: Hazards indicator - short circuit to ground

Issue description

The control module has detected a grounded circuit (0 volts / short to ground) on the hazard warning light indicator circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Isolate the Circuit: Turn off the ignition. Disconnect the harness connectors at the Body Control Module (BCM) and the hazard switch.

  2. Check for Short to Ground: Probe the hazard indicator signal wire (between the BCM and the hazard switch/lights) and a known good chassis ground.

  3. Read Resistance: If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (open circuit to ground), the wiring is good. The short may be internal to the hazard switch itself. If the multimeter reads continuity (less than infinite resistance, or < 2 ohms), there is a physical short to ground in the wiring harness (e.g., chafed wire touching the frame).

  4. Test the Switch: Test the hazard switch for internal shorts to ground when toggled.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical damage or accidental shorts.

  2. Access Components

Remove the necessary trim panels to access the BCM and the rear of the hazard switch on the console/dash.

  3. Trace the Harness

If the diagnostic check revealed a harness short, physically trace the hazard indicator wire through the cab main harness or console harness. Look for pinch points, melted insulation, or areas where the wire is rubbing against the metal chassis.

  4. Repair Wiring

Splice and solder a new section of wire to replace the damaged segment, sealing it with heat-shrink tubing.

  5. Replace Switch (If Applicable)

If the wiring harness tested good but the switch failed the continuity test, remove the defective hazard switch and plug in the replacement.

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the BCM, hazard switch, and battery. Turn the key on, clear the inactive 520565-06 fault code from the BCM, and test the hazard lights to verify the repair.
