Case IH 520566-00 - BCM – Body Control Module (BCM): Front windshield washer motor - too many loads or faulty load

The fault indicates an issue within the windshield washer motor control circuit monitored by the Body Control Module (BCM). "Too many loads or faulty load" means the BCM is detecting an abnormal electrical draw, typically pointing to an internal short circuit, an open circuit, corroded/loose connectors, or a blown fuse/failed relay.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the BCM and the washer pump. Look for chafed wires, pinched insulation, corrosion, or water ingress.

   Fuse/Relay Check: Inspect the fuses and relays dedicated to the washer pump circuit. Replace any suspect items with known-good units.

   Voltage Test: Probe the pump connector with a multimeter while commanding the washer switch. You should see battery voltage (~11–14 V) when activated.

   Resistance Test: Measure the pump motor's resistance with an ohmmeter. A healthy motor will show low resistance (a few ohms to tens of ohms). An open circuit (infinite resistance) means the motor winding has failed. Very low resistance indicates an internal short.

   Fluid Level Check: Ensure the reservoir has fluid, as running a pump dry can cause it to overheat and fail.

   Prep the Machine

   Park the machine on a firm, level surface. Turn the ignition off, engage the parking brake, and turn the main battery power switch to "OFF".

   Locate the Pump

   Locate the windshield washer fluid reservoir (usually accessible near the cab firewall or under the front hood panels).

   Drain the Fluid

   Have a catch can ready. Disconnect the fluid hoses from the pump; the washer fluid will drain out.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the electrical connector from the washer motor.

   Remove the Motor

   The washer motor is typically press-fit into the bottom or side of the reservoir tank. Pry the motor straight out of its rubber mounting grommet.

   Install the New Motor

   Lubricate the new rubber grommet slightly and press the new washer motor firmly into the reservoir tank.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the fluid hoses and the electrical connector.

   Test

   Refill the reservoir with washer fluid. Turn the battery switch back on, power up the machine, and test the washer switch to ensure proper spray operation.

   Clear Codes

   Use a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the stored BCM fault codes.
