520566-05 - BCM

Case IH 520566-05 - BCM – BCM: Front windshield wiper motor - too many loads or defective load

Issue description

Electrical circuit issue with the front windshield wiper/washer system. The -05 failure mode identifier typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground, or a defective load drawing incorrect current.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Magnum 200
  • Magnum 215
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 400
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Puma 200
  • Puma 215
  • Puma 230

Check the cause

  1. Verify the fuses and fusible links supplying power to the BCM and the wiper/washer system to rule out a blown fuse causing an open circuit reading.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the BCM and the front windshield motor for chafing, breaks, or disconnected plugs.

  3. Disconnect the motor and BCM connectors and check for enlarged contact springs on female terminals, pushed-out pins, or corrosion.

  4. Use a multimeter to check for continuity on the power and ground circuits from the BCM to the motor. An open circuit in the harness will show infinite resistance.

  5. Use a fused jumper wire (e.g., 5-amp fuse) to supply direct 12V battery power and ground to the washer/wiper motor. If the motor does not run, it is internally open/defective.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Motor

Locate the front windshield washer/wiper motor. Depending on the exact cab configuration, this requires removing the exterior cowl cover, the cab roof overhang panel, or the interior headliner access panel.

  3. Disconnect Lines

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the motor. If replacing the washer pump/motor, disconnect the fluid hose and plug it to prevent reservoir drainage.

  4. Removal

Unbolt the mounting hardware (usually hex nuts or machine screws) securing the motor bracket. If replacing the wiper motor, you must first remove the wiper arm from the exterior pivot shaft.

  5. Installation

Position the new motor assembly and secure it with the OEM mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnection

Reconnect the electrical connector and the washer fluid hose (if applicable). Reinstall the wiper arm if it was removed.

  7. Testing

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and test the front washer/wiper switch to confirm proper operation and clear the BCM fault code.
