Case IH 520567-00 - BCM – BCM: Electrical ignition power relay - too many loads or faulty load

The control module has detected an overcurrent condition on the ignition power relay circuit. The system is drawing more amperage than expected, which is typically caused by a short circuit, a failing relay, or a malfunctioning component (a "faulty load") on the ignition circuit.

   Inspect the Fuse/Relay Panel for signs of melted plastic, damaged sockets, or corrosion.

   Check all cables and connectors between the BCM, the fuse/relay block, and the ignition power relay for shorts to ground or damaged wiring.

   Verify the contact pressure at the relay socket and the BCM connectors (e.g., X-010 and X-011-BCM).

   Test the electrical ignition power relay itself to see if it is stuck closed or internally shorted.

   Isolate the load to identify if a specific component on the ignition circuit (such as cabin lighting, auxiliary electronic networks, or blower motors) is drawing excessive current.

   Depower the System

   Turn off the ignition switch, disconnect the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any electrical service to prevent damage to the BCM.

   Locate the Relay

   Locate the ignition power relay in the tractor's fuse and relay panel.

   Inspect and Replace

   Remove the relay and inspect the terminals. If the relay is faulty, replace it. Note: It is highly recommended to use a genuine OEM heavy-duty relay, as using an incorrect relay can damage the BCM.

   Repair Wiring

   If the relay is not the issue, trace the circuit to the faulty load and repair or replace any damaged wiring harnesses or components causing the overload.

   Panel Testing

   If the error persists after replacing the relay and verifying the wiring, OEM manuals suggest connecting a stable 12V power supply to the BCM connectors (X-010 and X-011-BCM) on the fuse and relay panel. If the error is still reported internally, the fuse and relay panel itself may need to be replaced.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes from the BCM, and cycle the ignition to ensure stable power switching and clean current delivery.
