Case IH 520567-06 - BCM – BCM: Electrical ignition power relay - short circuit to ground

The circuit controlling the electrical ignition power relay has shorted to ground, preventing the relay from functioning correctly and potentially disrupting ignition power to the machine.

   Inspect the wiring harness running between the BCM and the electrical ignition power relay for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom that could cause the circuit to ground out against the chassis.

   Disconnect the connectors at both the BCM and the ignition power relay. Inspect for water ingress, bent pins, or corrosion that could bridge the circuit to ground.

   Using a multimeter, test the control wire from the BCM to the relay for continuity to ground. If continuity is present while both ends are unplugged, the wiring harness is shorted.

   If the wiring harness tests fine, check the ignition power relay itself for an internal short to ground across its coil pins.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the negative battery cable before performing electrical repairs to prevent further module damage.

   Access the Components

   Locate the BCM and the fuse/relay panel housing the electrical ignition power relay.

   Repair the Harness

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the wiring, trace the wire to the point of damage. Cut out the damaged section, solder in a new piece of wire of the same gauge, and seal it with heat-shrink tubing.

   Replace the Relay

   If the wiring is intact but the relay is internally shorted, remove the faulty relay and install a new OEM replacement.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reconnect all harnesses and the battery. Turn the ignition on, clear the inactive fault codes from the BCM using the diagnostic display or service tool, and verify that code 520567-06 does not return.
