Case IH 520569-06 - BCM – BCM: Map lamp - short circuit to ground
Issue description
The control module has detected a short circuit on the power supply line to the interior map lamp. Voltage is being pulled directly to ground (0V) prematurely, typically caused by a chafed wire touching bare metal, a pinched wiring harness in the headliner, or an internal short within the map lamp assembly itself.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect (240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380, 400)
- Steiger / STX 4WD Series (380, 430, 500, 535)
- Patriot Sprayers 4420
- Titan Floaters 4030
Check the cause
Visually inspect the map lamp lens and housing in the upper right headliner/overhead console for signs of melting, physical damage, or water intrusion
Turn the ignition off, remove the map lamp from the headliner, and disconnect its electrical connector to isolate the component
Check the internal resistance of the map lamp assembly. If there is continuity between the power and ground terminals inside the lamp housing, the lamp itself is internally shorted
With the lamp and BCM disconnected, use a digital multimeter to measure resistance between the map lamp's power supply wire and a known good chassis ground. Low resistance indicates a chafed or pinched wiring harness
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent further electrical damage or blown fuses during the repair.
Access the Overhead Console
Remove the retaining screws (typically #8 x 1" self-tapping screws) securing the overhead control panel and headliner lining to access the cab roof harness.
Inspect the Cab Roof Harness
Trace the wiring harness from the map lamp connector back toward the BCM. Pay close attention to areas where the harness passes over metal brackets, near the sun visor mounts, or behind the speaker grilles, as these are common pinch points.
Repair the Wiring
If a chafed or pinched wire is found, cut out the damaged section, splice in a new piece of wire of the same gauge, and seal the repair with heat-shrink tubing.
Replace the Lamp
If the harness tested fine but the lamp was internally shorted, install a new map lamp assembly into the bezel.
Reassembly and Validation
Reconnect the map lamp, reinstall the overhead console, and reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the BCM fault code 520569-06. Toggle the map lamp switch to verify proper operation and ensure the code does not return.
