Case IH 520581-03 - BCM – BCM: Short circuit to B+ on the front and rear left marker light circuit
Issue description
Indicates a "Short circuit to B+" (battery voltage) on the front and rear left marker light circuit. A short to B+, also known as "unwanted power," is a condition where an unintended electrical path exists between a power circuit and a control circuit. In this scenario, the circuit for the left marker lights is receiving battery voltage and is detected as powered even when the controller logic has commanded it to be disabled (turned off).

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the front and rear left marker lights for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points where the lighting wire might be rubbing against a constant power wire.
With the machine off and the light switch in the OFF position, disconnect the left marker lights and use a multimeter to check for voltage at the connector. If 12V (B+) is present, the short is active in the harness or the BCM.
Inspect the main harness connectors (e.g., frame-to-cab connectors) and the BCM pins for corrosion, bent pins, or water ingress that could be bridging a constant power pin to the marker light pin.
Disconnect the specific harness connector at the BCM that feeds the left marker lights. If the voltage on the harness side drops to zero, but the BCM pin is still outputting 12V when commanded off, the BCM has an internal short. If the harness still shows voltage, the short is in the wiring.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing or further module damage during the repair.
Repair the Harness
If the diagnostic checks isolated the short to the wiring harness, locate the damaged section. Cut out the fused/chafed wires and splice in new wire of the same gauge using weather-resistant heat-shrink butt connectors.
Replace the Marker Light
If the short is internal to the marker light assembly (often caused by water intrusion bridging the contacts), unbolt the damaged light, plug in the replacement unit, and secure it to the bracket.
Replace the BCM
If the BCM is internally shorted to power, remove the access panels to reach the module. Disconnect all harness connectors, unbolt the BCM, and install the new or remanufactured unit. Note: A new BCM will likely require dealer programming/flashing with the correct software version for your specific PIN (Product Identification Number).
Test
Reconnect the battery. Clear the inactive fault codes from the system. Turn on the marker lights to verify proper operation and ensure code 520581-03 does not return.
