520581-06 - BCM

Case IH 520581-06 - BCM – BCM: Marker light front & rear left - short circuit to ground

Issue description

The control module has detected that the voltage supply circuit for the left-hand marker lights (both front and rear) is grounding out before reaching the load. This is typically caused by a chafed wire touching the tractor's metal chassis, a pinched harness, water intrusion, or an internal short within the marker light assembly itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 180
  • Magnum 190
  • Magnum 210
  • Magnum 215
  • Magnum 240
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 380

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the left front (cab/fender corner) and left rear marker light assemblies for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water intrusion, which commonly causes internal shorts.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connectors at both the front-left and rear-left marker lights to isolate the load.

  3. With the lights unplugged, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the marker light power supply wire and a known good chassis ground. If continuity exists, the short is in the wiring harness. If there is no continuity, the short is internal to one of the light assemblies.

  4. Trace the wiring harness from the left marker lights back to the BCM. Pay close attention to areas where the harness routes near sharp metal edges, cab pivot points, or tight bends where the wire insulation may have rubbed through.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage or blown fuses during the repair.

  2. Address the Faulty Component

If the light assembly is shorted: Unbolt the faulty left marker light from the cab corner or fender bracket. Install the replacement light assembly and plug in the connector. If the harness is shorted: Locate the chafed or pinched section of the wire. Cut out the damaged section of copper, splice in a new section of wire using solder and heat-shrink tubing, and re-wrap the harness in protective loom.

  3. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn on the tractor's lighting system to verify the left marker lights illuminate correctly.

  4. Clear Codes

Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 520581-06 fault code from the BCM memory.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Left-Hand Cab Corner / Fender Amber Marker Light

    279224A1

Fits left-hand side. Often replaced with aftermarket LED equivalents (e.g., Tiger Lights TL6130L) which include built-in resistors to work with the factory flasher system.

  • Marker Light Jumper Wire Harness

    87433100
  • Body Control Module (BCM)

    47896946

Exact part number depends on the tractor's specific Tier 4B/Stage V emissions package and transmission type; requires dealer programming.
