Case IH 520584-00 - BCM – BCM: Left brake indicator light - too many loads or faulty load
Issue description
The control module is detecting an overcurrent condition on the left brake light circuit. This is typically caused by a short circuit, a faulty bulb, a damaged wiring harness, or too many accessories (like aftermarket lights or trailer loads) spliced into the circuit, exceeding the maximum amperage threshold.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 280 AFS Connect
- Magnum 310 AFS Connect
- Magnum 340 AFS Connect
- Magnum 380 AFS Connect
- Magnum 400 AFS Connect
Check the cause
Inspect the left rear brake light assembly for a blown halogen bulb, a burnt-out LED array, or internal corrosion in the socket.
Check if any aftermarket work lights, beacons, or trailer wiring harnesses have been spliced into the left brake light circuit. Remove any non-OEM loads to see if the code clears.
Trace the wiring harness from the left tail light assembly back to the BCM. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the tractor chassis, or exposed copper causing a short to ground.
Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the left brake light circuit and compare it against the right brake light circuit to isolate the fault to either the housing or the wiring.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent further electrical shorts or damage to the BCM during repair.
Access the Assembly
Locate the left-hand rear lower cab corner tail light assembly.
Inspect and Replace the Load
If the tractor uses a replaceable halogen bulb, remove the lens, extract the bulb, and replace it with a new bulb of the exact OEM wattage. If the tractor uses a sealed LED assembly (common on AFS Connect and upgraded Magnum models) and the unit is faulty, unbolt the entire housing.
Repair Wiring
If the bulb/assembly is in good condition, repair any damaged sections of the wiring harness found during diagnostics using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors.
Reinstall and Test
Plug the new light assembly or repaired harness in, bolt the housing back into the factory location, and reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Turn the key to the ON position, apply the brakes, and verify that the left brake light illuminates properly and the 520584-00 BCM code is cleared from the AFS Pro 1200 display.
