520585-05 - BCM

Case IH 520585-05 - BCM – BCM: Right brake indicator light - open circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected a lack of electrical continuity in the circuit responsible for illuminating the right brake indicator on the dash. The underlying condition is typically a burnt-out bulb, a disconnected wiring harness, or a broken wire between the module and the instrument panel.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Visual Bulb Check: Turn the key to the ON position and depress the right brake pedal. Verify if the right brake indicator light fails to illuminate.

  2. Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the instrument cluster/indicator panel for visible signs of chafing, pinching, or disconnected plugs.

  3. Pin & Connector Check: Disconnect the harness at the dash panel and the BCM. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins that could cause an open circuit.

  4. Continuity Testing: Use a digital multimeter to test for continuity on the signal wire between the BCM output pin and the indicator light socket.

  5. Ground Verification: Ensure the ground circuit for the instrument cluster/indicator light is intact and securely fastened.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Indicator Panel

Remove the necessary steering column shrouds or dash trim panels to access the rear of the instrument cluster or the specific indicator light panel.

  3. Inspect/Replace the Bulb

Locate the socket for the right brake indicator. Twist and remove the socket. If the bulb filament is broken or blackened, replace the bulb. (Note: If your specific AFS Connect monitor/dash uses a sealed LED cluster, the bulb cannot be serviced individually).

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the bulb is good but the continuity test failed, trace the wire back to the BCM. Repair any broken wires using solder and heat-shrink tubing.

  5. Clean Connections

Spray the BCM and cluster connectors with electrical contact cleaner. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector seals and firmly reconnect them.

  6. Reassemble and Test

Reinstall the dash panels and reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition ON and press the right brake pedal to confirm the light now illuminates.

  7. Clear the Code

Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic display or a dealer scan tool to clear the inactive 520585-05 fault code from the BCM.
