Case IH 520586-03 - SVC – PVED-CLS Controller: Steering valve ground voltage level high / GND level above upper limit
Issue description
The controller is detecting that the ground (GND) circuit voltage is above the acceptable upper limit, indicating a voltage above normal or short-circuit to high source. This is classified as a Severe Internal Hardware Failure.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH Steiger & Quadtrac series (350, 370, 500, 550, 580, 600, 620)
- Case IH Puma and Optum series
- Case IH Patriot Sprayers / Multi Pro equipment
Check the cause
Inspect the 12-pin Deutsch connector at the PVED-CLS steering valve for water ingress, corrosion, or damaged pins.
Test the ground circuit using a multimeter to verify a clean, low-resistance path to the chassis ground.
Check for a short-to-power by probing the ground wires on the machine side of the harness with the key ON (engine off) to ensure no stray voltage is bleeding into the ground circuit.
Verify the machine's supply voltage to ensure the alternator is not overcharging and battery voltage is stable (operating range is 9V to 35.5V).
If the machine's wiring harness provides a clean ground and no short-to-power is found externally, conclude that the PVED-CLS controller has suffered an internal short and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Depressurize and Power Down
Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and relieve hydraulic pressure by turning the steering wheel back and forth.
Remove the Controller
Disconnect the 12-pin Deutsch connector from the PVED-CLS controller. Unbolt the controller module from the EHi steering valve block.
Install the New Controller
Mount the replacement PVED-CLS module to the steering valve and torque the bolts to OEM spec. Reconnect the wiring harness.
Bleed the Hydraulic System
Before calibration, ensure all air is bled from the steering system. Start the tractor and turn the steering wheel fully left and fully right a minimum of 10 times. Listen for abnormal noises or vibrations.
Perform Steering Calibration
Using the AFS Pro display or a diagnostic PC (Autopilot Toolbox / CNH EST), initiate the Auto Steering Calibration Mode. Note: Danfoss mandates that calibration must be performed on a hard, on-road surface like unpainted concrete or asphalt, not in the dirt.
