Case IH 520591-05 - SFB – BCM / SFB: Backup Alarm - Open Circuit

The control module has detected an open circuit in the backup alarm (reverse buzzer) electrical circuit. This means the electrical path to the backup alarm is broken, disconnected, or the alarm itself has failed internally, preventing the module from detecting the expected electrical load.

   Visually inspect the backup alarm at the rear of the machine, checking the wiring harness, connector plug, and pins for corrosion, physical damage, or a disconnected plug.

   Perform a component continuity test: disconnect the electrical connector and measure resistance across the backup alarm terminals with a multimeter. An 'OL' (Open Loop) reading indicates internal failure.

   Test harness voltage: with the machine safely secured, turn the key to ON (engine off) and place the transmission in reverse. Check for 12V at the positive pin of the harness connector.

   Verify the ground circuit by checking that the ground pin on the harness connector has good continuity to the machine's chassis ground.

   If no voltage is present at the connector, trace the wiring back to the Smart Fuse Box (SFB) / BCM to check for broken wires or a failed output pin at the module.

   Secure the machine

   Park the machine on a level surface, apply the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Disconnect the wiring harness

   If the diagnostic tests point to a failed alarm (internal open circuit), disconnect the wiring harness from the backup alarm.

   Remove mounting bolts

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the backup alarm bracket to the chassis.

   Remove the faulty alarm

   Remove the faulty backup alarm.

   Install the new alarm

   Install the new OEM backup alarm and tighten the mounting hardware.

   Apply dielectric grease and reconnect

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector to prevent moisture intrusion and reconnect it to the alarm.

   Verify operation

   Turn the key to the ON position and place the machine in reverse to verify the alarm sounds.

   Clear the fault code

   Clear the 520591-05 fault code from the SFB/BCM using the machine's diagnostic display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
