520592-05 - BCM

Case IH 520592-05 - BCM – BCM: Mirror heater indicator - open circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected a break in the electrical path (infinite resistance or lack of continuity) specifically in the circuit that powers the indicator light for the heated mirrors.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH AFS Connect
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 380
  • Magnum 400
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Verify Heater Operation: Command the mirror heater on. Check if the mirrors actually heat up. If the mirrors heat up but the indicator does not illuminate, the fault is isolated to the indicator circuit/LED. If neither works, the open circuit may be a shared ground or a broader BCM output issue.

  2. Visual Inspection: Inspect the mirror heater switch and indicator on the cab control panel for physical damage or liquid intrusion.

  3. Harness & Connector Check: Access the back of the switch panel. Inspect the harness connector for backed-out pins, loose connections, or corrosion.

  4. Continuity Testing: Using a multimeter, backprobe the indicator supply wire from the BCM to the switch panel. Check for continuity. An 'OL' (Open Loop) reading confirms a broken wire in the harness.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch Bank

Carefully pry or unscrew the cab control panel/headliner console where the mirror heater switch and indicator are located.

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the harness from the switch assembly. Inspect the pins. If corrosion is present, clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the continuity test revealed a broken wire between the BCM and the console, locate the break (commonly at pinch points or harness bends) and splice/solder a repair wire, sealing it with heat shrink.

  5. Replace the Switch/Indicator

If the wiring harness has good continuity and the connector is clean, the open circuit is internal to the switch/indicator assembly (e.g., a burnt-out internal LED). Replace the switch assembly.

  6. Reassembly and Testing

Reconnect the switch panel, restore battery power, and turn the ignition on. Press the mirror heater switch. The indicator should illuminate, and the BCM should move the 520592-05 code from "Active" to "Stored/Historic." Clear the codes using the diagnostic display.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Mirror Heater Switch / Indicator Assembly

On AFS Connect models, this is often integrated into a larger modular switch bank or the armrest control panel rather than being a standalone toggle. You will need to order the specific switch module matching your cab's trim level.

  • BCM (Body Control Module)

In rare cases where the BCM output driver has failed internally, the BCM itself may need replacement or a software re-flash.

  • BCM 12V software update
