520602-00 - BCM

Case IH 520602-00 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #2 - too many loads or faulty load

Issue description

The circuit is drawing excessive current. The system has detected that the electrical load on this specific lighting circuit exceeds the maximum allowed threshold.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Case IH Steiger series

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect Work Lamp #2 (typically located on the cab roof or rear fender) for physical damage, water ingress, or a melted housing.

  2. Load Verification: Check the bulb or LED assembly to ensure it is the correct OEM wattage. If aftermarket lights were recently installed, they may be drawing excessive current and triggering the fault.

  3. Isolation Test: Disconnect the work lamp from the harness. Turn the system on and check if the fault code changes to an 'open circuit' code (such as 520602-05). If the code changes, the lamp itself is internally shorted and must be replaced. If the 520602-00 code remains, the issue is in the wiring harness or the BCM.

  4. Harness Inspection: Trace the lighting harness from the BCM to the work lamp. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connectors that could cause a short circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable

to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Locate Work Lamp #2 on the machine.

  3. Disconnect the electrical pigtail connector at the rear of the lamp assembly.

  4. If the lamp is faulty: Remove the mounting bracket hardware, remove the old lamp, and install the new OEM-spec work lamp.

  5. If the wiring is faulty: Locate the shorted or chafed section of the lighting harness.

Cut out the damaged wire and splice in a new section using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors.

  6. Apply dielectric grease to the lamp connector

to prevent future moisture ingress, and plug the connector back into the lamp.

  7. Reconnect the battery cable.

  8. Turn on the ignition, clear the inactive fault codes from the BCM via the cab display, and activate the work lamps to verify the repair.
