Case IH 520604-02 - ACM – ACM: Rear PTO auto switch circuit fault

Fault code 520604-02 indicates a "Rear PTO auto switch circuit fault." Technically, this means the control module has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit of the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) auto switch. The "-02" failure mode identifier typically designates an erratic signal, incorrect data, or a circuit that is shorted to ground / operating below its normal voltage range. This prevents the system from safely verifying the operator's command to engage or disengage the rear PTO automatically.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the Rear PTO auto switch on the armrest for physical damage, sticking, or debris that might prevent the switch from returning to its neutral position.

   Wiring and Connector Check: Access the underside of the armrest control panel. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the Rear PTO switch for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires causing a short to ground.

   Switch Continuity Test: Disconnect the switch and use a digital multimeter to test the internal contacts. Verify that the switch shows proper continuity when toggled and an open circuit when released.

   Voltage Supply Check: Turn the key ON and check the harness side of the connector for the proper reference voltage (typically 5V or 12V supply from the ACM) and a good ground.

   CAN Bus / ACM Verification: Check the diagnostic display (e.g., AFS Pro 700) for other active ACM codes (such as 2818 or 2819, which indicate a loss of communication with the Armrest Control Module). If multiple armrest switches are failing simultaneously, the ACM itself or its main harness may be the culprit.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Carefully remove the armrest control panel cover or decal plate.

   On many models, you can lift the decal plate by slipping a finger underneath the designated groove on the side of the plate to expose the switch mounting hardware.

   Locate the faulty Rear PTO auto switch and disconnect its electrical wiring harness connector.

   Remove the retaining clips, locking tabs, or screws securing the switch to the armrest console, and push the switch out of its mounting slot.

   Insert the new OEM replacement Rear PTO switch into the armrest panel until it clicks securely into place.
