Case IH 520613-03 - ACM – ACM: Rear hitch working position voltage high
Issue description
The sensor (potentiometer) responsible for monitoring the working position of the rear three-point hitch is sending a voltage signal to the control module that is above the normal or expected operating range. This typically indicates a short circuit to a high voltage source (like a 5V reference or 12V battery power) or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series
- Case IH Optum CVT Series (Optum 270, 300)
- Case IH Maxxum / MXU Series (115, 125, 135, 140, MXU110)
- Case IH Farmall Series (65C, 75C, 85C, 100C, 105C, 115C, 105U, 115U)
Check the cause
Inspect the rear hitch position control potentiometer (located on the rear lift linkage actuator frame) for physical damage, moisture intrusion, or fine harvest dust tracking.
Disconnect the 3-terminal electrical connector from the potentiometer and use a multimeter to check the signal wire for a short-to-power (shorted to the 5V reference or 12V B+).
Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5-volt reference and has a solid ground, as a lost ground can cause the signal voltage to float high.
Check if the ACM is throwing related codes (e.g., 520613-06 for voltage low, or 520613-13 for sensor mismatch) to further confirm an erratic sensor element.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect battery power to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate sensor
Locate the rear hitch position potentiometer on the rear linkage actuator frame.
Unplug connector
Unplug the 3-pin weather-pack connector from the sensor.
Remove faulty sensor
Unbolt/unclip the faulty potentiometer from its mounting tabs and remove it.
Install new sensor
Install the new OEM potentiometer, ensuring it lines up cleanly inside the original mounting tabs.
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the 3-pin electrical harness.
Restore power
Restore battery power and turn the key on.
Perform calibration
Perform a rear hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic display/monitor (AFS Pro screen). This allows the ACM to learn the minimum and maximum voltage sweeps of the new potentiometer.
