520615-03 - UCM

Case IH 520615-03 - UCM – UCM: Rear PTO fender switch shorted to B+ (VBAT / 12V switched)

Issue description

The control module is detecting a continuous high voltage (a short circuit to power) on the circuit dedicated to the external rear PTO control switch located on the tractor's fender.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect
  • Puma
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the rear PTO fender switch connector to ensure no pins are pushed back or corroded.

  2. Check the wiring harness running from the rear fender switch to the UCM for signs of rodent damage, chafing, or pinched wires that could cause a short to a 12V power source.

  3. Perform a Circuit Isolation Test: Disconnect the fender switch. If the fault code changes from a 'short to B+' (520615-03) to an 'open circuit' code (such as 520611-05), the switch itself is internally shorted. If the 520615-03 code remains active while unplugged, the short to 12V is located in the tractor's wiring harness between the switch connector and the UCM.

Repair steps

  1. Power down the tractor and turn off the main battery disconnect switch to protect the UCM.

  2. Locate the rear PTO switch on the rear fender housing.

  3. Disconnect the electrical harness from the back of the switch.

  4. Based on your diagnostic isolation test, address the short circuit.

If the harness is shorted: Trace the wiring harness back toward the UCM, locate the chafed or damaged section (often caused by rodents or vibration), and repair the wires using weather-sealed connectors. If the switch is internally shorted: Depress the retaining clips or remove the mounting hardware holding the switch to the fender bezel.

  5. Remove the faulty switch and snap the new OEM replacement switch into the fender.

  6. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the connector is fully seated so pins are not pushed back.

  7. Turn on the battery disconnect, power up the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes via the AFS display. Test the fender PTO switch to ensure the PTO engages properly.
