Case IH 520615-04 - UCM – UCM: Rear PTO fender switch with open circuit
Issue description
The control module is not detecting the expected electrical continuity or voltage return from the external PTO switch located on the rear fender. This condition is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or an internal failure of the switch itself.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Farmall Series
- JXU Series
- MXU Series
- MXM Series
Check the cause
Inspect the electrical connector at the rear PTO fender switch for disconnected plugs, heavy dirt ingress, or corroded pins.
Trace the wiring harness from the rear fender switch back toward the UCM for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or severed lines.
Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for internal continuity when pressed. If it reads as an open circuit regardless of position, the switch has failed internally.
With the key on, check the harness side of the connector to ensure the UCM is sending the proper reference voltage to the switch.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the Switch
Locate the faulty rear PTO switch on the rear fender housing.
Disconnect
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.
Remove the Switch
Depress the retaining tabs or remove the mounting nut (depending on the exact model year) to push the old switch out of the fender bezel.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire rather than a faulty switch, splice and repair the wire using weatherproof heat-shrink connectors.
Install New Part
Insert the replacement OEM PTO fender switch into the fender housing until it clicks or is securely fastened.
Reconnect
Plug the wiring harness back into the switch, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the connector locks.
Test and Clear
Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and test the fender PTO switch for proper operation. Clear the 520615-04 fault code from the UCM via the cab display.
