Case IH 520617-02 - ACM – ACM: Transmission sensitivity switch circuit fault

The control module has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit of the transmission sensitivity switch (also known as the APM sensitivity switch or transmission response potentiometer). The failure mode indicates an out-of-range signal, such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power, preventing the module from reading the operator's sensitivity input.

   Inspect the transmission sensitivity switch/potentiometer on the multifunction armrest console for physical damage, sticking mechanisms, or signs of liquid spills.

   Check the wiring harness connecting the sensitivity switch to the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for chafed wires, pinched harnesses inside the armrest, or loose/corroded connector pins.

   Use a multimeter to test the switch's resistance and continuity across its operating range to determine if the internal potentiometer has failed.

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor live data from the ACM. Check if the voltage is stuck at 0V or 5V (or reads out of limits) while the switch is being moved.

   Verify that the main connectors to the ACM are fully seated and free of corrosion.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the necessary trim panels or cover plates on the multifunction armrest to access the internal switch panel and ACM wiring.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the transmission sensitivity switch.

   Remove

   Unclip or unscrew the faulty sensitivity switch/potentiometer from the armrest console mounting bracket.

   Install

   Mount the new transmission sensitivity switch into the console and secure it.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector into the new switch, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely into place.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest trim panels and covers.

   Test and Clear

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the Case IH EST to clear the 520617-02 fault code. Test the switch operation to ensure the transmission sensitivity adjusts correctly on the display and the code does not return.
