The system is detecting an implausible signal, out-of-range value, or uncalibrated state from the hand brake switch/sensor in relation to the trailer brake demand.

   Use the tractor's diagnostic menu (e.g., H3 menu) to verify the hand brake switch state matches the exact physical position of the hand brake.

   Inspect the wiring harness going to the ITBV ECU and the hand brake switch, specifically checking the X-386F connector for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

   Verify that the air reservoir and hydraulic lines feeding the ITBV are not leaking by connecting a 0 to 250 bar pressure gauge to the trailer brake coupler.

   Check for trapped air in the trailer brake valve lines (located on the right side of the transmission, forward of the rear axle) which can cause erratic pressure sensor readings.

   Calibrate the Hand Brake

   Enter the tractor's calibration mode via the Pro 700 / AFS display or service tool and run the hand brake / ITBV calibration routine.

   Test the Switch

   If calibration fails, test the hand brake switch for continuity. Replace the switch if it has an internal open or short circuit.

   Bleed the ITBV

   If the switch is functioning, bleed the hydraulic lines running from the shuttle valve to the ITBV to ensure no air is causing pressure plausibility faults.

   Replace the ITBV / ECU

   If the wiring is intact, the system is bled, and calibration still fails, the ITBV ECU or the pneumatic valve itself has likely failed internally. Replace the faulty component.

   Re-flash and Calibrate

   If the ITBV ECU is replaced, the new module must be flashed with the latest firmware and the trailer brake system must be fully recalibrated.
