Case IH 520712-13 - ITBV – ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve) Controller: Pneumatic redundancy plausibility check failed
Issue description
The system's redundant pressure sensor does not detect the expected pneumatic backup pressure during a brake application, indicating a mismatch between the electronic brake demand and the pneumatic backup circuit.

Check the cause
Check the specific ITBV fuses in the cab fuse panel (commonly F-030 10A and F-044 10A) to verify power supply.
Inspect the air reservoir by manually opening the drain valve to check for excessive water or oil that could freeze or block pneumatic valves.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the ITBV block (specifically connector X-386F and the ITBV dust cap) for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.
Verify that the tractor's air compressor is building and maintaining the correct system pressure (typically 8 to 8.5 bar).
Perform a sensor plausibility test using a diagnostic tool to monitor live data for the ITBV pneumatic redundancy pressure sensor while applying the brake pedal. A reading of 0 bar or out-of-range voltage indicates a faulty sensor or wiring.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Drain the air from the pneumatic brake reservoir completely to ensure the system is safe to work on.
Locate the ITBV
Locate the Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve block, which is typically mounted near the rear axle or transmission housing.
Disconnect Electrical & Pneumatic Lines
Carefully disconnect the electrical harness from the ITBV solenoids. Mark and disconnect the pneumatic air hoses (e.g., the ITBV bandbrake air hose).
Replace the Faulty Component
If diagnostics point to a failed solenoid, remove the retaining screws and replace the specific ITBV solenoid valve (12V DC). If the internal redundancy circuit or main block is mechanically seized, replace the entire ITBV Pneumatic Valve assembly.
Reassembly
Install the new valve or solenoid. Reconnect all pneumatic lines securely and plug in the electrical connectors. Ensure the dust cap is properly seated to prevent future moisture ingress.
System Test
Start the tractor and allow the air compressor to build full system pressure. Spray soapy water on the pneumatic fittings to check for air leaks.
Clear Codes
Connect the diagnostic tool, clear the 520712-13 fault code, and perform a test drive with a trailer to ensure the plausibility check passes and the trailer brakes engage smoothly.
