52230

Case IH 52230 – HITCH Controller: Upper Limit control is set below the position of the hitch.

Issue description

The hitch controller has detected the physical position of the rear hitch is currently above the maximum upper limit setting.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Steiger Series (STX 325, 375, 425, 435, 440, 450, 500, 530)
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH MX / TG Series
  • Case IH Puma Series (Puma 125)

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect for any mechanical interference in the hitch linkage that might be physically forcing the hitch higher than its commanded limit.

  2. Verify the function of the upper limit potentiometer dial on the armrest.

  3. Check the function and voltage sweep of the hitch rockshaft position potentiometer to ensure it is reading the correct physical angle of the hitch.

Repair steps

  1. Clear mechanical binding

Make sure there is no mechanical interference or external implement weight pushing the hitch linkage upward.

  2. Adjust settings

Manually change the upper limit setting on the armrest dial to a higher value, or lower the physical hitch position using the manual drop controls so that the upper limit is set above the current hitch position.

  3. Cycle power

Turn the tractor off, wait a few moments, and cycle the key switch back on to see if the fault code clears.

  4. Test and replace sensors

If adjusting the settings does not clear the code, use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to test the Rockshaft Position Potentiometer and the Upper Limit Potentiometer. If either sensor has a dead spot or fails to register changes, replace the faulty potentiometer.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Hitch Rockshaft Position Potentiometer

Mounts to the rear rockshaft to monitor the physical angle of the hitch.

  • Upper Limit Potentiometer

    Located inside the armrest controller.
