Case IH 52260 – HITCH Controller: Remote hitch UP and DOWN switch failure

The controller has detected an illogical state, an open circuit, a short circuit, or a stuck switch in the remote 3-point hitch control switch located on the rear fender. This usually happens when the switch gets packed with dirt/moisture and sticks in the closed position, or if the wiring harness shorts out.

   Inspect the rear fender switch for physical damage, packed dirt, or debris preventing the rocker switch from returning to its neutral, centered position.

   Reach behind the fender and disconnect the switch. Inspect the wiring harness connector for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Using a multimeter, test the switch itself for continuity. It is a momentary switch and should only show continuity when the UP or DOWN button is actively pressed. If it shows continuity in the neutral position, the internal contacts are stuck/shorted.

   If the switch tests fine, check the wiring harness for a short to ground or a short to 12V power between the fender switch connector and the HITCH controller.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, lower the 3-point hitch to the ground (if possible from inside the cab), and remove the key.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty remote hitch switch on the rear fender. Depending on the tractor model, you may need to remove a plastic bezel or reach up behind the fender mudguard skin to access the back of the switch housing.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Squeeze the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it outward through the fender mounting hole.

   Install the New Part

   Push the replacement switch into the fender cutout until the retaining tabs click and lock it securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness back into the new switch. Ensure the weather-pack seal is seated correctly to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Test and Clear

   Turn the tractor on. The HITCH controller should recognize the corrected circuit. Clear the inactive fault codes from the instrument cluster/monitor and test the fender switch to confirm the 3-point hitch raises and lowers correctly.
