Case IH 522827-03 - PCM – PCM: HSD Output-1 Voltage Above Normal, Or Shorted To High Source

The High Side Driver output 1 is detecting a voltage that is higher than expected. This is typically caused by the output wire chafing and making direct contact with a 12V power source (short circuit to battery) or an internal module failure causing an overvoltage condition.

   Disconnect the negative leads from the batteries before probing to avoid sparks from an accidental short circuit

   Check the external wiring harness leading from the PCM for physical damage, looking for areas where wire insulation may have rubbed through against the chassis or another powered wire

   Check if there is a software update available and try reflashing the parameters on the module before replacing the PCM

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the battery ground cable.

   Disconnect PCM harness

   Locate the PCM and disconnect the wiring harness connector containing the HSD Output-1 pin.

   Test for continuity

   Using a multimeter, test the HSD Output-1 wire for continuity to the battery positive terminal.

   Trace wiring harness

   Trace the wiring harness to locate the short circuit (often found near pinch points or areas of high vibration).

   Repair wiring harness

   Repair the damaged section of the wiring harness using appropriate electrical connectors and heat shrink.

   Reconnect harnesses

   Plug all electrical wiring harnesses back into the PCM connectors.

   Verify repair

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on to verify if the fault code clears and the electrical components work.
