522827-04 - PCM

Case IH 522827-04 - PCM – PCM: HSD output-1 short circuit to ground or undervoltage

Issue description

The High Side Driver (HSD) output channel 1 on the module has detected that its voltage is below the expected operating threshold, or the circuit is shorting directly to ground.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum AFS Connect series tractors
  • Steiger AFS Connect series tractors
  • Optum and Puma series tractors
  • Patriot 50 Series sprayers
  • Axial-Flow 250 and 260 series combines

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the machine's battery voltage is healthy and that the main power supply to the PCM is within specification

  2. Inspect the wiring harness exiting the PCM for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or exposed copper on the HSD Output 1 circuit

  3. Disconnect the PCM harness and check for moisture, bent pins, or corrosion that could cause a short to ground

  4. Identify the specific auxiliary device powered by HSD Output 1, disconnect it, and check if the short to ground persists to isolate the component

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the PCM

Access the Processing & Connectivity Module (typically located in the cab roof or behind the interior trim panels, depending on the specific tractor/combine model).

  3. Isolate the Circuit

Unplug the connector containing the HSD Output 1 pin.

  4. Test for Short to Ground

Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance between the HSD Output 1 wire and a known good chassis ground. If there is continuity (low resistance), trace the wire to locate and repair the short circuit. If the wire tests good and the connected component is not internally shorted, the PCM itself has suffered an internal failure on that driver circuit.

  5. Replace/Repair

Repair the damaged wire section using OEM-approved splicing techniques, or replace the faulty auxiliary component. If the PCM is internally shorted, replace the module.

  6. Re-provisioning

If the PCM is replaced, the new module will need to be flashed and provisioned by a Case IH dealer to link it to your AFS Connect / FieldOps account.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, cycle the key, and clear the inactive fault codes using a diagnostic tool.
