Case IH 522837-07 - PCM – PCM: SIM chip not responding

The internal SIM card or eSIM inside the machine's telematics modem is failing to communicate with the module's processor. This prevents the machine from connecting to cellular networks for AFS Connect telematics, RTK corrections, and data transfer.

   Connect the EST to the CAN1/ISOBUS diagnostic connector and check Parameter 81 (SIM Card configuration) in the PCM 'General Configuration' to verify if the module is looking for an eSIM or a physical plastic SIM.

   Verify the machine has an active P&CM Telematics subscription (1-year, 3-year, or 5-year) and that the SIM has not been deactivated by the carrier.

   Check for associated cellular antenna faults (e.g., 522840-05 Cellular Antenna Open Circuit or 522840-06 Cellular Antenna Short to Ground) which might indicate a broader modem failure rather than just the SIM.

   Attempt to flash/update the PCM firmware via the EST to rule out a software glitch causing the SIM reader to hang.

   Inspect and reseat physical SIM

   If the PCM uses a physical SIM (e.g., AT&T for Canada/Limited US markets, or Verizon for standard US markets), access the PCM, remove the SIM card, clean the contacts, and reseat it. If it still fails, the dealer must provide and activate a replacement SIM.

   Disconnect battery power

   If the module utilizes an integrated eSIM or the internal SIM reader has failed, the entire PCM must be replaced. Begin by disconnecting the machine's battery power.

   Remove faulty PCM

   Locate the PCM and disconnect the main harness (CAN, RS232, Ethernet/USB) and GNSS/Cellular antenna connections. Unbolt and remove the faulty PCM.

   Install new PCM

   Install the new PCM and reconnect all harnesses.

   Configure new PCM

   Connect the EST to configure the new P&CM. You will need to contact your Case IH dealer to transfer any software feature activation codes from the old display/module to the new one.
