522840-05 - PCM

Case IH 522840-05 - PCM – PCM: Cellular antenna open circuit

Issue description

The control module is unable to detect the cellular antenna. This "open circuit" condition typically means the antenna is unplugged, the coaxial cable is severed/pinched, or the internal circuitry of the antenna itself has failed.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series
  • Case IH combines and sprayers equipped with AFS Connect telematics

Check the cause

  1. Locate the PCM (Processing and Communications Module) in the cab roof or behind the operator seat.

  2. Check the physical connection of the cellular antenna coaxial cable at the PCM to ensure the connector is fully seated and tightened.

  3. Disconnect the antenna cable from the PCM and inspect the pins and receptacles for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or bent pins.

  4. Trace the coaxial cable from the PCM to the cellular antenna on the exterior cab roof, looking for severe pinches, cuts, or chafing in the wire.

  5. Temporarily connect a known-good cellular antenna to the PCM to see if the 522840-05 code changes to inactive.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine's key switch and disconnect battery power if required by your specific model's safety guidelines.

  2. Disconnect the Antenna

Access the PCM and unscrew the cellular antenna coaxial connector.

  3. Remove the Old Antenna

Navigate to the exterior roof mount. Depending on the antenna style (adhesive, magnetic, or bracket-mounted), carefully remove the faulty antenna and pull the wiring harness out of the cab routing channel.

  4. Install the New Antenna

Mount the replacement cellular antenna on the outside of the vehicle (ensure it is mounted at least 1 meter away from GNSS/radio antennas to prevent interference, per OEM guidelines).

  5. Route the Cable

Carefully route the new antenna cable back into the cab and down to the PCM, ensuring it is not pinched by interior trim panels.

  6. Reconnect and Clear

Connect the new antenna to the PCM. Power the machine back on, allow the PCM to boot up, and verify that fault code 522840-05 is no longer active.
