Issue description

The internal temperature of the Cab Suspension Module (or the external temperature sensor it relies on) has dropped below the minimum acceptable operating threshold. This can be caused by extreme environmental cold, a short-to-ground in the sensor wiring, or an internal hardware failure within the controller's temperature monitoring circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Verify ambient temperature: Determine if the tractor is operating in extreme sub-zero conditions. If cold soaked, allow the cab and electronics to warm up to see if the code clears.

  2. Perform visual wiring inspection: Locate the CSM and inspect the main wiring harness for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or moisture intrusion in the connectors that could cause a short-to-ground.

  3. Check pins and connectors: Disconnect the CSM and inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or spread terminals.

  4. Verify with Electronic Service Tool (EST): Connect the Case IH EST and view live data for the CSM. Check the 'Controller Temperature' parameter for impossible values (e.g., -40°C when it is 20°C outside), which indicates a failed internal thermistor or circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Machine

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the CSM

    Locate the Cab Suspension Module (typically mounted under the cab floor or within the rear cab electrical compartment, depending on the specific Magnum/Steiger chassis).

  3. Clean and Re-seat

    If the diagnostic checks revealed corrosion, clean the connector with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and re-seat the connection. Reconnect the battery and test.

  4. Replace the Module

    If the wiring is intact and the EST confirms the internal temperature sensor is faulty, the CSM must be replaced, as internal board components are not serviceable.

  5. Install the New CSM

    Mount the new controller and plug in the harness connectors securely.

  6. Program and Calibrate

    Reconnect the battery. Connect the Case IH EST laptop. The new CSM will be blank and must be flashed with the correct firmware (e.g., software part number 51669963 for AFS Connect Magnums).

  7. Perform Cab Suspension Calibration

    Run the automated cab suspension calibration routine via the EST or the AFS Pro display to teach the new module the upper and lower travel limits of the cab shock absorbers.
