Issue description
The Intelligent Trailer Braking System (ITBS) uses algorithms to automatically apply the trailer's pneumatic brakes to equalize the braking effect between the tractor and trailer (preventing jack-knifing, especially on CVT transmissions). This fault triggers when the pressure sensor on the "control line" (the line signaling the trailer to brake) reports a higher pressure than the "supply line" (the main air source reservoir). Because the control pressure cannot physically exceed the supply pressure that feeds it, the system logs a "disagreement." This points to a faulty pressure sensor within the valve, a stuck pneumatic valve, or a wiring/CAN communication error.

Check the cause
Verify the power supply to the ITBV by checking the Electronic Power Distribution Unit (EPDU) for the switched battery power supply fuse (e.g., F-674 / 7.5A) and permanent battery power supply fuse (e.g., F-696 / 15A).
Ensure the main air reservoir is building adequate pressure. Use the air reservoir drain valve to purge any moisture, condensation, or ice that could be blocking the supply line.
Inspect the ITBV electrical connections (such as the X-386F connector) for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture ingress.
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and monitor live data for 'Supply Line Pressure' and 'Control Line Pressure'. If the control line reads high while the system is at rest, the internal sensor of the ITBV has failed.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and completely drain the pneumatic air reservoir using the drain valve to ensure there is no stored energy in the supply lines.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery or remove the ITBV fuses from the EPDU to prevent electrical shorts.
Remove Connections
Disconnect the main electrical harness from the Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve. Carefully mark and disconnect the pneumatic supply and control lines from the valve body.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the ITBV assembly from its mounting bracket on the chassis.
Install the New Part
Mount the replacement ITBV. Reconnect the pneumatic lines to their respective ports, ensuring the fittings are torqued to spec and seated properly to prevent air leaks.
Reconnect Power
Plug in the electrical harness, reinstall the fuses, and reconnect the battery.
Test and Calibrate
Start the tractor and allow the air compressor to build full system pressure. Spray soapy water on the pneumatic fittings to check for leaks. Connect the EST, clear the 523265-01 fault code, and perform a test drive to ensure the ITBV calibrates and the trailer brakes engage without triggering a disagreement fault.
