Case IH 523265 - 04 - CSM – CSM: Cab suspension left position - cab suspension left position signal low

Issue description

The Failure Mode Indicator (FMI) '04' stands for 'Voltage Below Normal, Or Shorted To Low Source'. This means the control module is receiving a signal voltage from the left cab suspension position sensor that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. A 'signal low' condition typically indicates a short to ground in the signal wire, a disconnected/corroded connector, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness routed to the CSM from the left cab suspension position sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or damage.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

  3. Turn the key ON and use a multimeter to verify the sensor is receiving a standard 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground.

  4. Check the signal wire for continuity to the CSM and ensure it is not shorted to ground (which causes the FMI 04 code).

  5. If the wiring harness, 5V reference, and ground are intact, conclude that the rotary position sensor has failed internally and requires replacement.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Lower the cab suspension fully or safely support the cab to remove tension from the suspension linkage.

  2. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  3. Removal

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the left cab suspension position sensor. Unbolt the linkage arm connected to the sensor, then remove the sensor mounting hardware (often utilizing M10 bolts and washers).

  4. Installation

    Mount the new rotary position sensor and reattach the linkage arm. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec.

  5. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor and reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibration

    Perform a cab suspension calibration after replacing the sensor using the tractor's Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) or through the in-cab terminal display. This teaches the CSM the new sensor's minimum and maximum travel limits.

  7. Clear Codes

    Clear the 523265 - 04 fault code from the CSM memory and test drive the tractor to ensure the cab levels correctly.
