523450 - 02 - CSM

Case IH 523450 - 02 - CSM – Cab Suspension Module (CSM): Vehicle controller - cab suspension communication fault with vehicle controller

Issue description

The CAN bus communication network has lost the signal or is receiving erratic/invalid data between the tractor's main Vehicle Controller and the Cab Suspension Module (CSM).

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • AFS Connect Magnum 180
  • AFS Connect Magnum 200
  • AFS Connect Magnum 220
  • AFS Connect Magnum 240
  • AFS Connect Magnum 250
  • AFS Connect Magnum 280
  • AFS Connect Magnum 310
  • AFS Connect Magnum 340
  • AFS Connect Magnum 380

Check the cause

  1. Check for multiple codes to determine if other modules are also reporting CAN bus communication faults (indicates main CAN bus failure rather than the CSM itself)

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness connecting the Vehicle Controller to the Cab Suspension Module for chafing, pinch points, or melted insulation

  3. Inspect the connectors at both the CSM and the Vehicle Controller for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion

  4. Verify that the Cab Suspension Module is receiving proper voltage and has a clean ground connection

  5. With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the CSM connector (should read approximately 60 ohms)

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the main battery switch to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Modules

Locate the Cab Suspension Module (CSM) and the Vehicle Controller.

  3. Perform Wiring Repairs

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken or shorted CAN wire, repair the harness using OEM-approved splice connectors and heat shrink.

  4. Clean Connections

If corrosion is found, clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.

  5. Software Verification

If the wiring is perfectly intact, the CSM may require a software re-flash. Verify that the CSM is running the latest software version (e.g., software version 1.0.0.0). This requires a dealer laptop with the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  6. Module Replacement

If the module has internal hardware failure and cannot communicate, replace the Cab Suspension Module.

  7. Clear and Test

Reconnect the battery, clear the inactive fault codes using the diagnostic menu, and test drive the tractor to ensure the active cab suspension dampening operates correctly without throwing the code.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Cab Suspension Module (CSM) Software

    51669963

OEM software part number for the module on AFS Connect Magnum series

  • Cab Suspension Module (Hardware)

Hardware part number will depend on the exact chassis PIN and should be verified with a Case IH dealer

  • CAN bus wiring harness pigtail

  • CAN terminator resistor
