524033-14 - ITBV

Case IH 524033-14 - ITBV – Trailer Brake Control (iTBV): Service tool - service request in progress

Issue description

The control module is currently receiving a service request or is in a diagnostic mode initiated by an electronic service tool. The module is either actively undergoing a software flash/calibration, or it is stuck in a diagnostic state expecting service tool commands.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Tier 4B)
  • Magnum 180
  • Magnum 200
  • Magnum 220
  • Magnum 240
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 380
  • Magnum 295 PowerDrive

Check the cause

  1. Check if a diagnostic service tool is currently connected to the machine's diagnostic connector. If a software update (flashing) or calibration is actively running, do not interrupt it.

  2. If no service tool is connected, perform a hard key-cycle to see if the ITBV module drops out of the service request state.

  3. Inspect the Cabin CAN bus (CAN_H and CAN_L) for electrical performance issues, such as shorts to battery/ground or open circuits at the starpoint connectors.

  4. Verify the current software version on the ITBV module. A failed previous update can leave the module stranded in 'service request' mode.

Repair steps

  1. Clear Active Service Routines

Connect the official Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Navigate to the ITBV module and ensure no active tests, brake bleeding procedures, or calibrations are running in the background.

  2. Reflash the Module

If the module is stuck in a service request state, use the diagnostic service tool to push a software upgrade or reflash the existing software (e.g., ITBV software version 1.3.0.0, part number 51595354) to restore normal operation.

  3. Wiring Repair

If the service tool cannot communicate with the ITBV to clear the state, test the wiring harness between the diagnostic port, the Central Gateway, and the ITBV module. Repair any damaged CAN lines.

  4. Module / Valve Replacement

As a last resort, if the ITBV module has suffered an internal failure and will not exit diagnostic mode or accept a flash, the ITBV valve/module assembly must be replaced.
