Case IH 524155-03 - ZTC – TCU: CR - Proportional Solenoid Valve for Reverse Clutch, Voltage Too High
Issue description
The control unit registers that the resistance and voltage at the CR (Reverse) proportional solenoid valve do not correspond with the switch status of the reverse clutch, typically indicating a short to a positive voltage source in the circuit.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- STEIGER AFS Connect
- 6230
- 6330
- 6430
Check the cause
Inspect the transmission wiring harness for any signs of shorting to a positive voltage source (rubbed-through wire insulation touching a power source).
Ensure all electrical connections at the transmission control valve block and the TCU are secure, fully seated, and free of moisture or corrosion.
Use a multimeter to measure the voltage and resistance at the signal input of the CR proportional solenoid valve and compare against OEM specifications to check for an internal short.
Verify that the TCU is correctly processing the solenoid valve signals and that the software is up to date.
Repair steps
Access the Valve Block
Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission where the CR (Reverse Clutch) proportional solenoid is installed.
Disconnect and Inspect
Disconnect the wiring harness from the CR proportional solenoid valve. Carefully peel back any protective loom to inspect for damaged wires causing a short to power.
Repair Wiring
If a short is found in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire and apply heat-shrink tubing, or replace the transmission harness if the damage is extensive.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring tests good but the solenoid fails the multimeter resistance test (internal short), remove the retaining bolt/clip holding the CR proportional solenoid valve in the valve block. Remove the faulty solenoid and install the replacement valve.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the TCU 524155.03 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and perform an operational check of the reverse clutch to ensure the transmission engages properly and the code does not return.
