Case IH 524259-31 - ITBV – Trailer Brake Control module (ITBV): Trailer Brake Controller Internal Fault

The ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve) internal logic, circuitry, or hardware has failed its self-check.

• MAGNUM AFS Connect
• Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380) with CVT Transmissions
• Case IH Farmall (e.g., 115U Efficient Power)

   Check for accompanying communication faults (e.g., 12892, 12898, or 12899) which indicate a CAN wiring harness issue rather than a valve failure.

   Inspect the Hydraulic Trailer Brake wire harness for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins at the ITBV connector.

   Verify the ITBV software version using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and ensure the module is flashed to at least software version 1.3.0.0.

   Confirm fault code

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm 524259-31 / 12885 is active and cannot be cleared.

   Prepare machine for repair

   Turn off the tractor, relieve all hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Disconnect electrical harness

   Locate the ITBV assembly. Disconnect the main electrical harness connector from the valve.

   Disconnect hydraulic lines

   Mark and disconnect the hydraulic pilot hoses and main brake lines from the ITBV fittings. Cap the lines immediately to prevent contamination.

   Remove ITBV

   Unbolt the ITBV from its mounting bracket and remove it from the machine.

   Install new ITBV

   Install the new ITBV assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec.

   Reconnect lines and harness

   Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.

   Bleed hydraulic circuit

   Bleed the trailer brake hydraulic circuit to remove any trapped air.

9. 9

   Calibrate and clear codes

   Reconnect the battery, power on the machine, and use the EST to calibrate the new ITBV and clear the fault codes.
