Case IH 524260-31 - ITBV – ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve) ECU: Internal Fault within the Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve (ITBV) controller
Issue description
The controller has detected a critical hardware or memory failure within its own circuitry, which will likely disable the trailer braking system for safety.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Puma series
Check the cause
Check power and ground supply to the ITBV, specifically verifying the two 15A fuses for permanent and switched battery power are intact and providing full voltage under load.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the ITBV for moisture intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins.
Check CAN bus communication lines between the ITBV and the vehicle controller to rule out bus corruption.
Verify that the ITBV End of Line (EOL) configuration matches the vehicle, especially if a recent software update occurred.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Safely bleed all air pressure from the tractor's pneumatic trailer brake circuit.
Disconnect Electrical
Disconnect the negative battery terminal, then unplug the main wiring harness from the ITBV ECU.
Remove Pneumatic Lines
Carefully disconnect the pneumatic tubes running to the ITBV (such as the tube running from the ITBV to the solenoid valve).
Remove the Module
Unbolt the ITBV ECU assembly from its mounting bracket.
Install the New Module
Mount the replacement ITBV ECU and reconnect the pneumatic lines.
Reconnect Electrical
Plug in the wiring harness and reconnect the tractor's battery.
Programming / Calibration
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to perform an EOL (End of Line) configuration so the module recognizes the specific tractor's dataset.
Test
Build up air pressure, clear the inactive fault codes, and perform a functional test of the trailer service and park brakes.
