Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying communication or voltage codes (e.g., 12892, 12898, 12899, 12883, 12884) and troubleshoot the tractor's wiring harness first if present.

  2. Inspect the 26-pin connector at the ITBV ECU for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or backed-out pins.

  3. Verify the ITBV module is receiving stable battery voltage and has a solid ground connection.

  4. Ensure there are no severe blockages or leaks in the pneumatic/hydraulic lines running from the shuttle valve or solenoid to the ITBV.

Repair steps

  1. Depower and Depressurize

Turn off the tractor, disconnect the battery, and safely relieve all hydraulic and pneumatic pressure from the trailer brake system.

  2. Locate the ITBV

Locate the Trailer Brake Control valve assembly (typically mounted near the rear axle/valve stack).

  3. Disconnect Electrical

Unplug the 26-pin wiring harness connector from the ITBV ECU.

  4. Disconnect Lines

Carefully disconnect the hydraulic tubes (e.g., the tube from the shuttle valve to the ITBV and the tube from the solenoid to the ITBV) and the pneumatic lines. Cap all lines to prevent contamination.

  5. Remove the Module

Unbolt the ITBV ECU/Valve assembly from its mounting bracket.

  6. Install the New Module

    Mount the replacement ITBV module.

  7. Reconnect Lines

Reconnect all hydraulic and pneumatic lines. Replace any damaged O-rings or seals to prevent leaks.

  8. Reconnect Electrical

Plug the 26-pin harness back into the new ECU.

  9. Calibrate/Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the 524268-31 fault code. The new ITBV module may require software flashing or calibration to match the tractor's specific configuration (e.g., software version 1.3.0.0).

  10. Test

Start the tractor, build up air pressure, and test the trailer brake circuit for proper operation and leak-free connections.
