Case IH 524270-31 - ITBV – ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve) / Trailer Brake Control Module: Trailer brake controller internal fault (EEPROM - NVMem Checksum failure (Part 1))
Issue description
A faulty checksum was detected in the relevant parameter group within the non-volatile memory (EEPROM) of the controller. This means the internal memory data has become corrupted or the module has suffered an internal hardware failure.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 295, 310, 340, 380)
- Case IH Steiger
Check the cause
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify that the tractor's configuration parameters match the physical equipment.
Check the current software version of the ITBV (OEM software part number 51595354, version 1.3.0.0 or newer).
Attempt to power cycle and clear the code. If the code immediately returns upon key-on, the EEPROM is permanently corrupted and cannot be bypassed in the field.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and safely release all air and hydraulic pressure from the trailer brake system to prevent injury.
Software Flash (Attempt 1)
Before removing hardware, use the Case IH EST to attempt a module re-flash or parameter reset. If the EEPROM accepts the flash and the code clears, the repair is complete. If it fails, proceed to hardware replacement.
Disconnect the Module
Locate the ITBV valve assembly. Disconnect the main electrical wiring harness connector.
Remove Lines
Carefully disconnect the pneumatic and/or hydraulic lines (such as the ITBV to Solenoid Valve tube) from the controller. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.
Swap the Hardware
Unbolt the faulty ITBV valve from its mounting bracket and install the new OEM replacement valve.
Reassemble
Reconnect all pneumatic/hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical harness.
Calibrate
Connect the Case IH EST. The new ITBV module must be configured to the tractor's specific CAN bus network and calibrated before the trailer brakes will function properly.
