Case IH 524271-31 - ITBV – ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve): EEPROM - NVMem Checksum failure (Part 2) - condition exists
Issue description
The system has detected a checksum error within the parameter group for 'Closed Loop Pressure Control.' This means that the software calculated a faulty checksum in the non-volatile memory (EEPROM) after parameters were transmitted, indicating that the internal memory of the controller is corrupted or has failed. When this code is active, the system triggers a Yellow Driver Warning and the ABS/Trailer Brake system is completely switched off.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380) - Tier 4B
- Case IH Farmall Tractors (e.g., 40, 45, 50, 115U)
Check the cause
Verify Power and Ground: Check the wiring harness to the ITBV to ensure there are no short circuits or voltage spikes (e.g., 'ShortUb') that could have caused the memory corruption.
Parameter Check: Verify if the correct parameters are set in the ECU. Ensure the relevant valve/actuator is properly equipped and activated in the parameter settings.
Software/Flash Check: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Attempt to clear the code or re-flash the ITBV module (Software Part Number: 51595354, Version 1.3.0.0).
OEM Support: Contact the WABCO Customer Care Center or Case IH dealer support to determine if the module can be recovered or if it is permanently bricked.
Repair steps
Secure the tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
Depressurize the System
Release all air and hydraulic pressure from the braking systems before removing any components to prevent serious personal injury.
Locate the ITBV
Locate the ITBV assembly.
Disconnect electrical harness
Disconnect the main electrical wiring harness from the ITBV module.
Disconnect tubes
Carefully disconnect the hydraulic/air tubes routed to the ITBV (e.g., the tube from the shuttle valve to the ITBV and the tube from the solenoid to the ITBV).
Remove faulty controller
Unbolt the ITBV mounting hardware and remove the faulty controller.
Install new ITBV
Install the new ITBV assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect lines and harness
Reconnect all hydraulic lines, air hoses, and the electrical harness. Replace any O-rings on the hydraulic fittings if necessary.
Bleed brake circuits
Bleed the hydraulic brake circuits to remove any trapped air.
Calibrate and program
Connect the Case IH EST to the diagnostic port and perform the required calibration and parameter programming for the new ITBV module.
