The fault indicates an Internal Fault within the Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve (ITBV). The module's internal microprocessor, memory (checksum errors), or internal circuitry has failed, or it is experiencing a critical software logic error that prevents it from safely modulating trailer brake line pressure.

   Check the 15 Amp fuse for the ITBV permanent battery power supply and the 15 Amp fuse for the ITBV switched battery power supply

   Look for related ITBV communication or sensor faults (e.g., 12892, 12898, 12899, 12818, 12819, 12825, 12826) that might trigger a module shutdown

   Check the current software version of the ITBV, as software updates can resolve certain logic issues

   Power Cycle & Clear

   Turn off the machine, disconnect battery power for 5 minutes, reconnect, and turn the key on to see if the internal fault (12885/12886) clears or returns to an active state.

   Flash/Update Software

   If the fault is intermittent or a known bug, update the Trailer Brake Control (iTBV) software. For Magnum AFS Connect tractors, the updated software version is 1.3.0.0 (Software Part Number: 51595354).

   Inspect Harnesses & Tubes

   Inspect the dual hydraulic trailer brake wire harness and the pneumatic tubes (specifically the tube running from the ITBV to the Solenoid Valve) for chafing or damage.

   Replace the ITBV

   If power and ground are verified, the software is up to date, and the internal fault remains active, the ITBV controller has suffered a hard internal hardware failure and the entire valve assembly must be replaced.

   Calibrate

   After replacing the ITBV, perform the trailer brake controller calibration via the tractor's diagnostic display to pair the new module to the vehicle controller.
