Case IH 524283-31 - ITBV – ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve) / Trailer Brake Controller: Trailer Brake Controller Internal Fault

The internal circuitry, software, or memory (such as a checksum error) within the trailer brake controller has failed or detected an unrecoverable internal error.

   Check the 15A fuse for the ITBV switched battery power supply at the Electronic Power Distribution Unit (EPDU)

   Check the 15A fuse for the ITBV permanent battery power supply at the EPDU

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting to the ITBV for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins

4. 4

   Verify the CAN bus connections (CAN 1 HI / CAN 1 LO) at the diagnostic connector

   Check for accompanying codes in the ITBV fault stack (Source Address 0x03 or 0x0B) and resolve any communication or sensor voltage faults first

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical arcing.

   Locate ITBV assembly

   Locate the ITBV assembly (pneumatic valve and ECU block).

   Relieve air pressure

   Relieve any residual air pressure from the pneumatic trailer brake reservoirs.

   Disconnect electrical connectors

   Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the ITBV ECU.

   Disconnect pneumatic lines

   Disconnect the pneumatic air lines from the valve fittings.

   Remove ITBV assembly

   Unbolt the ITBV assembly from its mounting bracket and remove it.

   Install new ITBV module

   Install the new ITBV module and reconnect the pneumatic lines and electrical harnesses.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Configure and calibrate

   Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes, configure the new module to the tractor's CAN bus, and perform any required calibration for the trailer brake system.
