Case IH 524287-31 - ITBV – ITBV: ITBV General System Fault / Undefined Condition
Issue description
Indicates a general system fault, software reset, or an undefined condition within the trailer braking system. It is often triggered by software plausibility errors (e.g., brake pedal switch output invalid compared to demand pressure) or requires a software update.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Series (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
Check the cause
Check the ITBV software version using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if an update is required.
Use the EST to check the off-board fault stack (Source Address 0x0B) for brake pedal switch plausibility errors.
Inspect the wiring harness to the ITBV ECU and check the cab fuse panel for the ITBV power supply (e.g., Fuse F-030 for ITBV UNSW B+ 10A).
Perform a pressure and leak test by inserting a 0 to 250 bar pressure gauge into the trailer brake coupler (with oil temperature at 40°–50°C and engine at 1000 RPM, release parking brake and apply brakes).
Repair steps
Update Software
If the ITBV software is outdated, flash the module to the latest version (e.g., Version 1.3.0.0) using the Case IH EST. Clear the fault codes and test drive to see if the 524287-31 code returns.
Inspect/Replace Sensors
If plausibility faults remain, test the brake pedal switches and the trailer brake pressure sensor. Replace if they are reading out of range.
Replace the ITBV ECU or Valve
If the software is up to date and the wiring/fuses are intact but the module remains unresponsive or continues to throw the generic fault, the ITBV ECU or the physical Trailer Brake Valve must be replaced.
Recalibrate
After replacing the ITBV ECU or valve, use the EST to perform the trailer brake engagement and disengagement calibration routines.
