Case IH 5261 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Loader Bucket Valve (Directional) Solenoid Dump (B) Supply Open Circuit

The control module is unable to detect a complete electrical path on the supply circuit to the "Dump" (B) directional solenoid on the loader bucket control valve. An "Open Circuit" typically means there is a broken wire in the harness, a disconnected or corroded electrical connector, or the internal copper windings of the solenoid coil have burned out and broken.

   Visually inspect the loader bucket control valve block and Dump (B) solenoid electrical connector for disconnected plugs, pushed-out pins, or heavy corrosion.

   Perform a coil resistance test by disconnecting the harness from the Dump (B) solenoid and measuring resistance across the two pins. 'OL' indicates an internally open coil.

   Perform a harness continuity test on the supply wire between the UCM harness connector and the solenoid connector to locate any breaks (if the coil tests normal).

   Check for supply voltage at the harness connector with the key ON and a bucket dump function commanded to verify the UCM is sending the signal.

   Safely Prep the Machine

   Lower the loader arms completely and rest the bucket flat on the ground. Turn off the engine and cycle the joysticks to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Access the Valve Block

   Lift the cab or remove the necessary access panels to reach the main loader control valve block.

   Isolate the Fault

   Based on your diagnostics, determine if the repair requires a harness fix or a solenoid replacement.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If a wire is broken, cut out the damaged section and splice in a new wire using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) butt connectors to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty Dump (B) solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic coil housing.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the machine on, clear the 5261 fault code from the UCM via the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool, and test the bucket dump function for proper operation.
