Case IH 5262 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Loader Bucket Valve (Directional) Solenoid Dump (B) Supply Shorted To Ground

The supply voltage wire feeding the "Dump" (B) directional solenoid on the loader bucket valve has a direct short to ground. The electrical current is finding a premature path to the machine's chassis/ground before properly flowing through the solenoid coil, causing the controller to disable the circuit and resulting in a loss of the ability to electronically actuate the bucket dump function.

   Visual Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the UCM to the loader bucket directional valve block. Look for areas where the harness may have rubbed against the frame, moving loader arms, or hot hydraulic lines, causing the insulation to melt or chafe and short the supply wire to the chassis.

   Solenoid Coil Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the Dump (B) solenoid. Measure the resistance (ohms) across the solenoid coil pins using a multimeter. If the reading is near 0 ohms, the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   Circuit Ground Test: With the solenoid disconnected and the machine powered off, test the supply wire pin on the harness side for continuity to ground. If there is continuity, the short is in the wiring harness between the valve and the UCM.

   Connector Inspection: Inspect the UCM and solenoid connectors for water ingress, bent pins, or corrosion that could be bridging the supply power to a ground pin.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental arcing or further damage to the UCM during repair.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short was found in the harness, cut out the damaged section of the wire. Splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors. Re-loom the harness and secure it with zip ties away from pinch points.

   Replace the Solenoid

   Locate the directional valve block and identify the Dump (B) solenoid cartridge. Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the shorted solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and torque the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the solenoid electrical connector and the battery.

   Test

   Turn the key to the ON position. Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 5262 fault code (or cycle the machine to see if the code self-clears). Test the joystick to ensure the loader bucket dump function operates smoothly.
