Case IH 5292 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Loader Auxiliary Valve (Directional) Solenoid Reverse (B) Supply Shorted To Ground

The electrical supply circuit that provides voltage to the reverse (B) solenoid on the loader's auxiliary directional valve has found an unintended path to ground. This condition prevents the solenoid from energizing, which will disable the reverse function of the auxiliary hydraulics (used for running attachments).

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the auxiliary directional control valve block for chafed insulation, pinched wires against the chassis, or melted loom

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the Reverse (B) solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, water intrusion, or damage

   Use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance of the Reverse (B) solenoid coil to its housing/ground (continuity to ground indicates an internally shorted coil)

   With the battery disconnected and both the UCM and solenoid connectors unplugged, test the supply wire for continuity to ground to verify if the harness is shorted

   Relieve Pressure

   Turn off the machine, lower the loader arms completely to the ground, and relieve all hydraulic pressure in the auxiliary lines (often done by cycling the controls with the key on/engine off, or using the pressure relief block).

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve

   Access the auxiliary directional control valve block and locate the Reverse (B) solenoid.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness short, splice and repair the damaged section of the wire, sealing it with heat shrink and protective loom.

   Remove Solenoid

   If the solenoid is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut located at the end of the solenoid cartridge.

   Replace Coil

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the new solenoid.

   Test and Clear

   Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the machine, test the auxiliary hydraulic reverse function for proper operation, and clear the 5292 fault code from the UCM using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the in-cab monitor.
