Case IH 53.00 - ACML – ACML: More than X consecutive HW-watchdog resets detected, checked during startup

A watchdog reset occurs when the module's internal processor stops responding, loses communication, or encounters a critical software/hardware error, forcing the system to reboot itself to attempt recovery. If this happens consecutively during the tractor's startup sequence, the system logs this fault to indicate a persistent internal failure or communication loss.

   Inspect the wiring harness connected to the Armrest Control Module for damaged wires, loose pins, or corrosion that could cause intermittent power loss or CAN bus disconnection

   Verify CAN bus communication between the ACML, Tractor Controller Unit (TCU), and Instrument Cluster Panel (ICP)

   Check for software issues; watchdog resets can sometimes be resolved by flashing the module with an updated software version via the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST)

   Clear the fault code and cycle the key to determine if the watchdog reset is a hard fault (returns immediately during startup) or an intermittent glitch

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the armrest console inside the cab to locate the Armrest Control Module (ACML).

   Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the module.

   Remove the mounting hardware.

   The module is typically secured with M3 x 0.5 x 14.4mm screws.

   Remove the faulty ACML and install the replacement unit.

   Secure the module with the screws and reconnect the wiring harnesses.

   Reconnect the battery.

   Power on the tractor and use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to program/calibrate the new Armrest Control Module to the tractor's CAN bus network.
